Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of dental surgeons about dental care and care applied to patients with Molar-Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH). To this end, questionnaires were applied to dental surgeons, who provide care in the city of Alfenas-MG. The questionnaire, composed of 22 questions, addressed the degree of knowledge about concepts and protocols of clinical conduct in the care of patients with MIH, as well as information about the preparation and sociodemographic profile of professionals. After the collection period, the data obtained were tabulated and analyzed descriptively. In total, 55 dentists responded to the questionnaire, predominantly professionals who work in urban centers. Most of the dentists in this study understand the concept of MIH and receive this condition monthly in their clinical practice. Composite resin and glass ionomer cements are the most recommended materials for treating teeth with MIH. And the biggest difficulty encountered in treating these teeth is achieving aesthetics and controlling sensitivity. Among the conditions that make the diagnosis of MIH difficult are enamel hypoplasia and amelogenesis imperfecta, considered as differential diagnoses. The majority of professionals evaluated claim that they are not confident in diagnosing and treating this condition and make clear the need for updates and training. Therefore, it is concluded that, although professionals understand the concept of HMI, there are still many doubts and insecurities regarding this topic. Thus, immersing dental surgeons in updates on MIH can improve the clinical approach to this defect and, consequently, provide well-being to these patients.
