Abstract

Introduction: Aspiration of jaw lesions is recommended to rule out vascular nature and estimate solid or cystic constitution. Case Description: Between February and July 2023, 13 patients were treated, seven of whom were women, with a mean age of 42 years. Four cases had a negative result on aspiration, two of them with a final diagnosis of idiopathic bone cavity, another of dentigerous cyst and another of residual cyst. Of the cases with positive puncture, there were two odontogenic keratocysts and one orthokeratinized odontogenic cyst that presented white and particulate aspirate. One case resulted in darkened mucous aspirate and had a final diagnosis of maxillary sinus mucocele. The remaining cases showed bloody aspirates and had a final diagnosis of dentigerous cyst (two cases), residual cyst, ameloblastoma and calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor. Conclusion: Isolated aspiration puncture has limited value in the diagnosis of jaw injuries.
