Composite resins exhibit excellent mechanical and adhesive properties, making them suitable for use in extensive cavities while preserving the dental structure. The semi-direct restoration technique offers lower costs and reduced execution time.
Objectives: This work describes step-by-step the fabrication of a semi-direct restoration in composite resin.
Material and Method: A cavity preparation was performed on a PD100 mannequin (Pronew) on tooth 36, using rounded diamond burs 2131, 4230, 2168F, and 3131 (KG Sorensen). The impression was taken using Profile condensation silicone (Vigodent) in a two-step technique with Putty Spacer (Kerr). The mold was isolated with Isolator (Yller) and then poured with Take1 Advanced Light Body addition silicone (Kerr). Take1 Advanced Putty addition silicone (Kerr) was applied over the Light Body (Kerr) and layered in a LEGO® block. The die was trimmed with a number 11 scalpel blade. For the fabrication of the restoration, A1E, AID Harmonize resin (Kerr), Applica, Condensa, Arte Modela, and Fissura LM spatulas (Quinelato), Brown and Ochre pigments Final Touch (Voco), fine-tipped brush (Hot Spot Design), and Emitter Now Duo light-curing unit (Schuster) were used. Final photopolymerization was carried out for 60 seconds on each face of the restoration, followed by post-polymerization in a conventional autoclave cycle. The finishing and polishing were done using burs and polishers in sequence. For cementation, absolute isolation was used, conditioning on the piece and selective on the tooth with 35% Ultra Etch phosphoric acid (Ultradent), Silane (Ultradent) on the piece, followed by the application of Maxcem Elite self-adhesive cement (Kerr) and light curing.
