Professional ethics are essential in dental practice to ensure the integrity of care, respect for patients, and harmonious relationships among professionals and educators. The Brazilian Code of Dental Ethics (Código de Ética Odontológica – CEO) establishes guidelines that govern the conduct of dental surgeons and is regularly updated to reflect social and professional changes. Within the context of the Family Health Strategy (Estratégia Saúde da Família – ESF), where teamwork and direct interaction with the community are fundamental, adherence to ethical standards becomes even more crucial. This study is a narrative review based on the analysis of the CEO, scientific literature, and regulatory documents, focusing on ethical aspects related to patient care, professional relationships, and academic teaching. Theoretical contributions from authors such as Muylaert, Chauí, and Silva were considered, in addition to the provisions of Resolution CFO No. 118/12. The findings indicate that ethical practices guided by the CEO strengthen the dentist–patient relationship by promoting autonomy, clear communication about treatments, and the prohibition of unethical behaviors, such as the use of unproven techniques. Mutual respect and technical collaboration among professionals were also found to foster a more effective and cohesive working environment. In the academic field, the ethical responsibility of educators plays a significant role in shaping the professional and moral development of future dentists. In conclusion, the CEO serves as a fundamental instrument to guide ethical, humanized, and responsible dental practice, contributing not only to the regulation of the profession but also to the overall quality and credibility of dental care provided to the community.
